Among the main lines of development of modern industry in Abkhazia the hydroenergetics, wood industry, food industry, consumer industry, raw materials industry can be pointed out.
The basis of modern food industry of Abkhazia is export-oriented wine industry. There is also honey production, beer production, adjika (Abkhazian spice), mineral water and lemonade production represented in a small amount.
The increase of inert materials’ export, required during the building of sports venues and infrastructure for Sochi Olympic Games 2014 had a positive impact on the amount of producing of construction materials and raw materials industry in the Republic of Abkhazia.
Energy production is a strategic part of the industry. All of the power in Abkhazia is generated on the on Ingur River where the biggest hydroelectric power station of the Caucasus is placed. By the various estimates, the hydro energetics in Abkhazia covers 3.5 mln kWt that is more than 13.5 mln m3 of the stream flow per year.
